We started the CPR (Canadian Pacific Railway) unit today. We discussed the major factors in its creation, what was needed for its completion, who benefited most and who suffered.
You took notes on pages 228-9, and 234-6 and answered questions 1-3 on page 236.


Block A (1-1) English 9


I collected the last of the Much Ado About Nothing assignments.


We started looking at travel writing with articles by Alastair Humphreys (A Man With A Bike) and John Mitchell (Airport Arrivals are Hell). You did a half hour free write on a local travel experience (Richmond/Steveston/Vancouver)


FOR NEXT CLASS: Find a travel article (online/magazine/newspaper/chapter from a book), read it through and familiarize yourself with it well enough to present the information about the author, the area and the experience to the class.


Block B (1-2) English 9

Last speeches today! The Grade 8s really enjoyed Jason, Brandon, Chelsia, Ruby, Nancy, Cam and David's presentations.

The rest of the class wrote an analysis of Trudeau's "First Among Equals" speech from 1980.

Starting next week, you will be working with Miss Brown.

In keeping with the speaker you saw today, here is a clip from an amazing French-language documentary made ten years after the liberation of Auschwitz.

You wrote individual comparisons of Canadian symbolism in 1885 vs. today.

We revisited the analysis of political cartoons.  We looked at several historical ones which addressed the Northwest Rebellion, Riel and John A MacDonald.

FOR NEXT CLASS: Find a current political/editorial cartoon, published AFTER the Olympics and do a brief point-form analysis to be handed in.

Block A (1-1) English 9

You had today's class to complete a worksheet on MAAN (Much Ado About Nothing) quotes.  Altogether, you had to fill in the blanks in 10 quotes from the play and then translate those quotes into modern English.  This was handed in at the end of class.

FOR NEXT CLASS: Answer the questions (1-7) for Act III

Block B (1-2) English 9

You had today's class to complete a worksheet on MAAN (Much Ado About Nothing) quotes.  Altogether, you had to fill in the blanks in 10 quotes from the play and then translate those quotes into modern English.  This was handed in at the end of class.
